Mommy Makeover – Plastic Surgery Post-Pregnancy Transformation

Many women have made the choice to start a family and become a mother. The moment a mother holds her child in her arms, she’s in love. But, let’s be honest, she doesn’t fall in love with her body post-baby. Pregnancy takes a toll on a woman’s body; it’s a long road of a structured exercise regimen and healthy diet to get back on track. Unfortunately, in many cases, that’s still not enough to get rid of stretch marks and loose, sagging skin. Plastic surgeons are now offering a combination of cosmetic procedures known as a “Mommy Makeover.” Below is a list of post-pregnancy issues and the ending results of surgeries.

Mommy Makeover Surgery

1. Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) – Pregnancy causes the abdominal wall muscles, abdomen skin and rectus abdominis muscles to stretch. This is necessary so the baby has room to develop properly. Some women are lucky, the stomach will return to the same state as it was before pregnancy. Other women may have issues with one or more of the following: stretch marks, lax skin and/or permanent detachment of the rectus abdominis muscles. Surgeons will correct separated muscle walls as well as remove excess skin and fat.

2. Breast Enhancement (Augmentation and/or Lift) – Breast milk is produced during pregnancy, increasing the size of the mother’s breasts. Women are often left with stretch marks, a smaller size or sagging breasts. Depending on the circumstances, either an augmentation or lift will be performed to correct the issue. Surgeons may opt to do an augmentation and lift if the breasts are sagging and smaller in size.

3. Fat Removal (Liposuction) – It seems to be unavoidable for women to gain weight during pregnancy, especially in the backside and thighs. Exercise and a healthy diet can help eliminate excess weight after pregnancy. However, some women will gain extra pockets of fat during pregnancy that they cannot shed post-pregnancy. This type of excess fat can be eliminated with liposuction.
Other factors to consider before a Mommy Makeover:

It is best to have all children before surgery
The body needs time to recover after pregnancy; approximately 6 months to a year
Wait at least 6 months after breastfeeding before any breast surgery
